The Best of Best Awards evaluation framework was developed over multiple iteration cycles in consultation with business leaders, academics, and industry associations across our major sectors. The framework's seven criteria — Innovation and Creativity (20%), Business Performance (20%), Leadership Excellence (20%), Customer Impact (15%), Sustainability and CSR (10%), People and Culture (10%), and Overall Excellence (5%) — reflect the consensus view of what constitutes genuine, sustainable, multi-dimensional business excellence. The equal weighting of Innovation, Performance, and Leadership reflects the fundamental insight that truly excellent businesses are innovative in approach, strong in financial performance, and superbly led — and that strength in any one dimension without the others is insufficient for the highest level of recognition.
The independence of the judging process is enforced through structural safeguards that go beyond policy commitments. Every judge must provide written disclosure of all potential conflicts of interest before accessing any nomination materials. Judges are algorithmically matched to nominations only in categories where they have no disclosed conflicts. Scores from all three or more judges evaluating each nomination are held separately until the moderated panel review stage, at which point divergent scores are discussed and reconciled through deliberation rather than averaging. Senior review applies to all decisions where the panel's margin is below the threshold required for confident majority determination.
Nominees who receive detailed feedback reports — available on request to all unsuccessful nominees — consistently describe the process as valuable regardless of outcome. The feedback identifies which of the seven criteria scored strongly, which fell short relative to other nominees in the same category, and what types of evidence would have strengthened the submission. Many businesses that were unsuccessful in their first nomination have used this feedback to strengthen their second submission and win. The feedback loop is not merely a consolation service — it is part of our genuine commitment to raising the standard of business excellence communication across our entire nominee community.
The published 7-point framework is an open invitation to every ambitious business to conduct an honest internal assessment of its position across all seven dimensions before submitting a nomination. Businesses that undertake this exercise before writing their nomination consistently produce stronger submissions — because the process of gathering evidence for each criterion often reveals achievements that the leadership team had not previously articulated clearly.
