India deserves particular recognition as arguably the most dynamic major economy in the Asian programme. With the world's largest population, a technology sector that has produced globally competitive companies across software services, fintech, health technology, and consumer internet, a manufacturing sector that is rapidly expanding into electronics, pharmaceuticals, and advanced industrial production, and a startup ecosystem producing more unicorns annually than almost any other country — India's representation in our programme has grown more rapidly than that of any other country. Our Indian nominees consistently produce some of the most compelling business transformation narratives in the global programme: stories of companies built in challenging environments, overcoming infrastructure, regulatory, and capital constraints to achieve outcomes that would be impressive in any market.

Singapore's role in the Asian programme reflects its extraordinary position as the most globally connected city-state in the world. Home to the Asian headquarters of hundreds of multinational corporations, a leading financial centre by every metric, and a government that has consistently made policy decisions designed to attract and develop world-class business activity — Singapore produces award nominees with a distinctive characteristic: they are genuinely internationally competitive from inception, because they are built in an environment that demands international standards from day one. Singapore nominees in our programme tend to be smaller in absolute terms than nominees from larger markets, but they tend to be exceptionally well-run, globally oriented, and commercially sophisticated businesses that punch significantly above their weight in competitive contexts.

The Southeast Asian technology and startup ecosystem — encompassing Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and their neighbours — is one of the most exciting business development stories of the current decade. A generation of founders educated at global universities, returning to their home markets with world-class knowledge and connections, combined with enormous and rapidly digitising consumer markets, supportive government policy in many jurisdictions, and growing availability of venture capital — is producing companies of real global significance at an accelerating pace.
